You can now watch over the air TV on Xbox One (for a price)
You can now watch live, subscription-free, over-the-air broadcast TV on your Xbox One. That means you can access and watch HD versions of all the major networks, including ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, and more.
To access the TV networks, you’ll need to buy a few additional pieces of hardware though.
To begin with, you’ll need to pick up a Hauppauge Digital TV Tuner for $60. If you need an antenna – something that will help significantly, almost to the point that it is nearly mandatory – you’ll need to buy the bundle that also includes the Mohu Leaf 50 HDTV Antenna.
Although $100 isn’t a small amount, once you drop that cash, you can then watch any over-the-air channels without a subscription or any additional fees. More than that, you can work it into your normal Xbox One gaming habits. So if you want to drop some time to completing side quests in Witcher III: Big Hunt while also watching Agents of SHIELD or the like, you can have the game in the primary screen, and the TV show in the snapped field on the side..
You can also use the Xbox One app to stream the TV programming from the Xbox One to any device with Windows 10.
It’s easy enough to install – just set up the optional (but not really) antenna on the side, then connect it to the Hauppauge Tuner. The Tuner then plugs into a USB slot on the Xbox One.
The devices are available now, although quantities are still limited. The Microsoft Store, for example, is currently sold out. That should change quickly enough though.
