Go watch the Rick and Morty season 3 premiere right now

It’s generally a good bet that you can avoid reading any social media feeds on April 1. People love to drop an April Fool’s joke online, which makes our news feeds even more loaded with junk than normal. But in an interesting twist, Rick and Morty creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland decided to do a little reverse trolling and instead of teasing people, they put the Rick and Morty season 3 premiere online, streaming it for free weeks (maybe months) before the season airs.

You can watch the entire episode – along with a new short – below.

The episode is titled “The Rickshank Redemption,” and it marks the start of the third season of Rick and Morty. It also resolves the cliffhanger from season two and sets in motion several potential plotlines for the upcoming season. It also reminds us that Rick is an asshole, albeit a funny one. There is always the chance that there’s more to this release than meets the eye, of course. It could be a deliberate misdirection or a fake of some kind, but given how long it takes to animate an episode, Occam’s razor seems to suggest this is the first episode of the third season, full stop.

An official date for the third season hasn’t been announced yet, but “Summer 2017” is the current goal. That could always change though. The original plan was to have season three out in 2016, but that always seemed a bit overly ambitious. This early reveal could mean we will get it sooner than summer, or it could mean nothing at all other than Roiland and Harmon love to mess with people.

The teaser is also worth your time. It features a pair of meeseeks in a Pokemon-like battle that escalates to ridiculous portions. Check it all out below and look for more Rick and Morty soon. Ish. Hopefully.
