The undead go noir in the first look at Call of Duty: Black Ops III zombies mode
The San Diego Comic-Con is no stranger to video game news, but it has become more about movies and TV shows than gaming – or really even comics for that matter. But every once in a while there is a big game announcement or reveal, and this year that announcement came via Activision and Call of Duty.
Treyarch and Activision have used the formerly comic-centric event to give us our first look at the new zombie mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops III. It is a mix of gameplay and cinematics, but it’s more of a taste than a detailed showing. Still, it reveals a few things.
To begin with, the trailer “Shadows of Evil” shows that the setting of the mode – at least this particular offering – is noir-ish, with a roaring 20s look. If this game is like the last, Treyarch will release more zombie add-ons in the future as part of the scheduled DLC releases, and each new zombie add-on will be a little different from the last. For now though, it looks like the 20s is the setting.
The zombie add-ons tend to bring out some decent stars to do the voice work, and this one is no different. In fact, it is arguably the most star-studded yet. The voice cast includes: Jeff Goldblum, Heather Graham, Neal McDonough, and Ron Perlman.
As for the mode itself, it looks very zombie-ish. You’ll have power-ups (that probably require some serious work to unlock, plenty of weapons, and lots of zombies to murder, you heartless bastards. What if there is a cure? Did you ever stop to think about that? Did you?!
Comic-Con might seem like an odd place to debut a major feature of a game, but honestly, where else are you going to find a more appropriate location to talk about zombie-related things?
Anyway, it all looks like a bigger and better version of the past zombies modes, which is a good thing. The multiplayer has also been revealed, and like the zombies mode there are some cool bits, and lots of general images that we’ll need to see more of to really get an idea about.
Check it out below, and look for Call of Duty: Black Ops III, along with the Black Ops III zombies mode on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on November 6, 2015.
