The next Far Cry

Updated: Ubisoft has officially unveiled Far Cry Primal. The game will be available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on February 23, 2016. The PC version will ship soon after in March.

The description of the game is as follows:

Gamers play as TAKKAR, a seasoned hunter and the last surviving member of his hunting group. Arriving in the majestic and savage land of Oros, players will pursue one single goal; survive in a world where humans are the prey. They will meet a cast of memorable characters who will help them push back and tame the dangers of the wild. Players will journey as the first human to tame the wilderness and rise above extinction.  Along the way, they will have to hunt for food, master fire, fend off fierce predators, craft weapons and tools partly from the bones of slain beasts and face off against other tribes to conquer Oros.

To go with the news, Ubisoft has released a reveal trailer, as well as a behind the scenes clip.

And now check out the behind the scenes clip:

Original post: There’s a new Far Cry game on the way! Everyone act surprised!

Far Cry 4 was a hit, a big one at that. It was one of the best next-gen games when people were still thinking of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as the “next” gen. It sold well, and more than that, it played well. There were a lot of things to do and a lot of ways to do them.

A sequel was more or less inevitable. But a sequel set in a radically different time before even firearms? Well, that’s a bit of a surprise.

It all began with Ubisoft Switzerland releasing an image of a warrior in the style of a cave painting. Soon after, it teased the link to a video of cave paintings (seen below), with the promise of a “Ubisoft Announcement – COMING SOON,” and the tagline “Survival is timeless.” The video is actually live, so it is more or less a countdown.

It was a cool little mystery, and it lasted about an hour.

Shortly after the Ubisoft tease, IGN Turkey confirmed that the game is called Far Cry Primal, and it features prehistoric combat.

The image alone doesn’t show any real details, but it does give us some hints.

The reveal should fill in a lot of those gaps, but Ubisoft probably wasn’t too thrilled to see the name and artwork leaked ahead of time.

Ubisoft has a problem with leaks. The last few Assassin’s Creed games were all leaked before the company could officially unveil them. It’s frustrating for the developer, but not all that surprising either.

Ubisoft is a massive company, and each title has hundreds of people working on it in some capacity. The Assassin’s Creed games alone are estimated to have around 800 people working on each title in some capacity. The Far Cry series probably isn’t quite that big, but it’s close.

The official reveal should come soon. Regardless of how it came to the public’s attention, a prehistoric game is kind of a cool idea. The removal of guns could add new layers to an old formula.

More on the next Far Cry game coming soon – expect to see an “updated” note at the top of this article very soon.
