The new DuckTales opening is here, along with a release date
In February 2015, Disney announced its plans to reboot its nostalgia-drenched animated series, DuckTales. It was met with general excitement, although there was a hint of fear at the concept of rebooting a beloved show.
Since that announcement, those fears have been lessened substantially by the casting news that has since come out. Headlining the reboot is David Tennant as Scrooge, which itself is cause to celebrate. But to make it even better, the former Doctor is joined by Danny Pudi, Ben Schwartz, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Paul F. Thompkins, Allison Janey, and several other well-known names.
With the hype growing, Disney has finally revealed the release date of the show and details of the premiere, along with the opening sequence.
The new DuckTales will debut on August 12, 2017 at midnight on Disney XD. The pilot episode will be a one-hour TV movie, which will then air on repeat for 24-hours solid. After that, the series will begin in earnest with weekly episodes, beginning on September 23. That date actually has some deep significance – the original DuckTales first aired on September 18, 1987, meaning the new version will hit the air less than a week after the 30th anniversary.
As for the main theme, it’s a new version but remains true to the original. The new version is sung by singer and songwriter Felicia Barton, best known for her stint on American Idol.
The new theme also suggests that the show will upgrade Donald Duck and the character of Webby Vanderquack from their minimal roles in the original. Check it out below.
