‘The Crew’ open beta coming November 25

The Crew open beta

Ubisoft’s open world racing MMO is coming to consoles and the PC this December, but you can try it out later this month. The Crew open beta begins on November 25 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and runs through November 27.

A closed beta ran earlier this month, but the new one is open to all.

To go along with the announcement, Ubisoft has also released a fairly detailed trailer for the game, titled “The Crew – 101 Trailer.” As the “101” suggests, it breaks down the basics from the game.

To begin with, there are 12 major American cities accessible, connected by a lot of wilderness. In total, there are a staggering 1900 square digital miles to explore. If you can see it, you can drive to it. The Crew is also divided into five regions, each with its own look and feel. If you don’t want to drive, you can take a train, a plane, or fast travel anywhere between the five.

As you explore The Crew’s America, you’ll come across other, real life racers. You can form a crew of up to four players to complete missions, or go it alone. There are also several competitive modes alongside the co-op, and factions that you and your crew can join. The better the crews in a faction perform, the closer they can get to dominating a region, or even the country. You can either compete against other crews, or go PvP, it’s up to you.

As with most racing games, there are also plenty of cars to try, and ways to tune those cars. You’ll need to earn cash to do this though. Compete daily, or just work your way through the game to unlock more options.

Regardless of how well you tune your ride  though, there are certain types of cars that are made for certain styles of racing. Street cars are meant for street racing in urban environments; Performance cars are balanced for multiple objectives; Dirt are for off-roading and rough surfaces; Raid are meant for hitting other cars; Track are for circuit racing.

For a closer look at the individual missions, both with and against other players, check out the video below. The Crew open beta comes to PS4 and Xbox One this month, and the game will be released on PC, PlayStation 3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on December 2.
