Ash vs Evil Dead gets a second season before the first even airs

Ash vs Evil Dead second season

Halloween night is going to be rough. The non-holiday holiday lands on a Saturday this year, which means that there will be a lot of things to do this time round. Parties, special gathering, and events will be the order of the night, but there will be a significant number of people willing to put that all on hold in order to watch Ash vs Evil Dead.

And Starz is counting on exactly that.

The network has a lot of confidence in the show. The first season of 10 episodes hasn’t even begun to air yet, but Starz is apparently pleased with what it has seen so far, both in the final product and the buzz surrounding it. Starz has even pre-sold the show to 100 territories around the world based on that interest alone.

In fact, Starz has so much confidence in Ash vs Evil Dead that it has already ordered a second season.

“One season isn’t enough to satisfy the fans’ two decade-long appetite for more Ash,” Carmi Zlotnik, managing director of Starz said in a release sent to Variety. “The early fan and press support, along with the international broadcaster demand for more story have made it clear that the adventures of Ash Williams can’t end with season one.”

Starz has a history of approving additional seasons of its shows based on its own instinct and early reception, so this isn’t really that surprising. AMC recently made a similar move with Fear The Walking Dead, which proved to be a smart decision given the strong ratings.

The Sam Raimi created Ash vs Evil Dead starring Bruce Campbell has made headlines since the moment it was announced nearly a year ago. The second season will match the first in length, and continue the story with 10 more episodes. No release date was mentioned.

We’ll find out how smart a decision that renewal was when Ash vs Evil Dead premieres this Saturday night.
