So a guy surfed a massive wave on a dirt bike…
The fact that daredevil stuntman Robbie Maddison is still alive is somewhat baffling. After making headlines for backflipping over the Tower Bridge in London, Maddison decided to move on from heights, and instead decided to do something that seems kind of impossible. Because why not.
Maddison specializes in dirt bikes. He’s a big fan of them, so much so that he refuses to believe they can’t be used in all scenarios. Even on water.
After modifying his dirt bike with a ski on the front, Maddison first rode over a river. That wasn’t enough though, so he went to the oceans off the coast of Tahiti, where he basically surfed the waves on his dirt bike.
It’s insane and incredible. He makes it looks so easy that you may not notice that he nearly dies at one point. To be fair, he probably almost dies at several points, but one in particular.
“You can’t see that when the wave broke right behind me, I honestly thought that might be the end of my life,” he told an Australian news agency. “I’ve never felt like I was in the wrong place at the wrong time more than I did right there.”
The waves would be difficult for a professional surfer, let alone a guy on a dirt bike. So yeah, it’s really not all that surprising he almost died.
“It was a near-death experience. At the end of the day, the images and footage say something pretty awesome, but the ferocity and how gnarly that thing was can’t really be put into words.”
Check out the video below, and look for Maddison to do something else insane and probably reckless in the very near future.
