Rob Riggle cast as the lead in Dead Rising movie
The upcoming live action film version of the Dead Rising game has found its Frank West. Actor and comedian Rob Riggle (The Daily Show, 22 Jump Street) has been cast as the lead in the upcoming Dead Rising: Watchtower, according to Comingsoon.
Riggle joins a cast that includes Harley Morenstein (Tusk, “Epic Meal Time”), Keegan Connor Tracey (Once Upon a Time, Bates Motel), and Virginia Madsen (Candyman, Red Riding Hood). Zach Lipovsky (Leprechaun: Origins, Die Hardly Working) will direct.
Dead Rising: Watchtower puts the focus on four survivors caught between a zombie outbreak and a government quarantine. A mandatory vaccine pushed by the government proves ineffective, leading to the possibility of a large scale conspiracy.
Riggle will appear as West, an opportunistic photo-journalist who teams up with Tracey, a by-the-book journalist. While investigating the source of the outbreak, the pair come across a biker game led by Morenstein and Aleks Paunovic (This Means War).
The film is inspired by Capcom’s Dead Rising series of games, which pit players among a veritable ocean of smashable zombies. Players are able to use anything lying around as a weapon, as well as having the ability to combine items to create wild and insane tools of destruction.
The series debuted back in 2006 as an Xbox 360 exclusive; the most recent edition, Dead Rising 3, hit stores in November 2013 as an Xbox One exclusive and launch title. West is one of a handful of series protagonists, but he is arguably the most iconic.
The film is scheduled for release sometime in 2015, and it will debut on SVOD, VOD, DVD, and via the streaming video service, Crackle.
