Rewatching Game of Thrones Season 5: Come at me, Snow

This article is all about Game of Thrones Season 5, and it contains many spoilers. Proceed with caution.

Last year in anticipation of Game of Thrones season 5 debut, I decided to rewatch the previous four seasons of the show and tweet about it as I watched. I then posted the results season by season. It wasn’t exactly fun – it’s tough to label a show about wanton murder as “fun” – but it was entertaining.

It was the first time I had rewatched the episodes since they first aired, and it was a trip to see how dark that show got. The pilot episode ended with a child getting pushed out of a window, and yet looking back, that was borderline adorable by comparison to some of the things that came later.

In anticipation of the upcoming sixth season that debuts this Sunday, April 22, I decided to sit down and binge watch the fifth season and tweet my thoughts. My intention was always to collect those tweets and post them in the article you see now.

At first, this season seemed a little tamer than last season. There was still plenty of death, but there wasn’t quite as much random cruelty – at least not at first. It delved into the country of Dorne, depicted the Night’s Watch in transition, and showed life in Meereen. It also featured Sansa’s Stark’s descent into horror, arguably the most shocking (and probably soon to be revered) death in the series, and offered one of the hardest scenes in the entire show to watch as Stannis sacrificed his daughter.

Props to the show for making me have a visceral reaction to that scene, even knowing it is just a TV show. I really wanted to punch Stannis in the balls until they exploded. To hell with Jon Snow’s “death,” that scene is the one that sticks with me. I wish he could have died twice.

Anyway, check out my thoughts, and look for season 6 on Sunday! If you want to check the past articles, just follow the links below.
