Not Impressed by the Solo Trailer? Just Add the Beastie Boys
Someone recut the Solo trailer with the Beastie Boys song, and while it actually makes the trailer significantly better.
Shortly after the Super Bowl, Disney and Lucasfilm decided to drop the first trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story. It was…. well, it was a trailer shaped trailer.
The reactions to it were decidedly mixed. It wasn’t nearly as bad as it could have been thanks to all the behind-the-scenes shenanigans, but it probably didn’t send too many people running to Fandango to see when tickets go on sale. It was flashy and had some neat visuals, but it didn’t really blow many minds, and it has also drawn a lot of comparisons to Chris Pine’s James T. Kirk (and not necessarily in a good way).
So it’s not surprising that someone did something about it.
Chris Galegar, the co-host of the War Starts at Midnight podcast, recut the trailer with the Beastie Boys song “Sabotage.” It’s not the first time someone has recut a popular trailer with new audio – or even the hundredth – but it works really, really well, better than most.
Besides just adding a great song that fits the action, it also kind of sells the tone of the film many fans may be hoping for. The character of Han Solo is a fun-loving rogue, something the original directors seemed to understand – at least until they were fired midway through the production. The original trailer sort of captures that, but more just makes him a generic action hero.
So anyway, check out the recut trailer below. Who knows, maybe Disney will see the reaction to it and order another round of reshoots before it hits theaters on May 25.
