There’s a new nightmare-inducing giant spider to haunt your dreams

Last week, the internet went into collective freakout mode when a short video showed a giant spider carrying a mouse up the side of a refrigerator, apparently unaware that doing so should be impossible if we ever want to sleep in peace again.

Well, if that post was a little unnerving for you, this one will make you really lose your shit.

The image above is Charlotte, a giant freaking huntsman spider that is very real, and not at all a prop from a horror movie. Charlotte doesn’t harm humans – physically – just bugs and possibly the odd cow. Kidding about that last part. Hopefully.

The image was taken in October 2015, but it’s circulating now because of the attention the spider that stole the mouse grabbed. But go ahead and take a wild guess where this picture was taken. Go on, I’ll wait.

Of course the giant spider is from Australia.Where else would it be from?

The image was taken in Queensland, Australia at Barnyard Betty’s Rescue, an animal sanctuary that rescued the spider. It’s hard to believe that someone wouldn’t want Charlotte, that adorable little scamp.

“She was a beautiful, calm spider, not aggressive in any way and like most spiders she just wanted to go about her business eating bugs and living in peace,” the rescue organization explained. “She didn’t or doesn’t need to be killed! Poor spiders are so misunderstood!”

Huntsman spiders are generally found around the world, and they are typically considered gentle and harmless to humans. They will occasionally bite as a defensive mechanism, but their venom doesn’t cause any lasting harm to a healthy human.

Accept the nightmares. Sweet gods, the nightmares.
