The first Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation trailer shows Tom Cruise’s sick upper body strength
Paramount is wasting no time with the new Mission Impossible movie. Not time at all.
Although Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation just finished filming on March 12, Paramount already has a trailer to show for it.
Rogue Nation pits Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt against an organization of assassins, and apparently gravity. Hunt has some serious upper body strength, enough so that he can hang on to a plane while it is taking off. Most of us mere mortals would probably lose a few fingers or a hand before letting go, assuming we didn’t fall to our embarrassing death seconds in. But not Hunt. Hunt laughs in the face of gravity and physics.
The Mission Impossible series has pushed the envelope before, but following the way, way, way over the top Mission: Impossible II, the series has kept at least one toe in reality. Hopefully that trend continues, even with Hunt doing his best superhero impression.
Director Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher, The Way of the Gun) takes over the series, with Cruise reuniting with Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, and Ving Rhames. Rogue Nation was originally set for release on Christmas Day 2015, but Paramount decided to let Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens have the month.
Instead, the studio pushed the release up to July 31, 2015, probably to the pure joy of the filmmakers, who were suddenly faced with a significantly shrunken production window. Filming just ended – it just ended weeks ago, and now the production has just over four months to finish the film. What could possibly go wrong?
Anyway, check out the trailer and watch in awe as Tom Cruise gives the finger to the laws of physics.
Update: This post has been updated with the full trailer.
