‘Friends’ is coming to Netflix, and Seinfeld may be close behind
I was about to lead with the headline “The One Where All the Friends Episodes Come to Netflix,” but a quick Google search condemned my lack of originality by listing several variations of that headline already in existence. So to hell with it: All 236 episodes of Friends are coming to Netflix on January 1, 2015, according to Entertainment Weekly. What more do you need to know?
Kiss a sizeable chunk of your life goodbye as you pour through 10 seasons of Friends, over 83 hours. If the addition of Friends isn’t your think, however, at least you can rest easy knowing that its arrival makes it tougher and tougher for studios to deny the appeal of putting their shows on a streaming service. Today it’s Friends, but others, including Seinfeld, may be close behind.
The current syndication deal in place for Seinfeld expires this fall, and Jerry Seinfeld himself recently confirmed that negotiations for the streaming rights to the show are underway. It might be awhile before Seinfeld arrives on services like Hulu and/or Netflix, but with talks already taking place, don’t be surprised to see it join Friends in your queue in the near future.
