The first eSports arena in the US opens Friday with a ‘COD: Ghosts’ championship

On October 24, Columbus, Ohio will be the proud parent of a bouncing, baby eSports arena, the first of its kind in the United States. The arena will be up and running just in time for the Call of Duty: Ghosts Pro League Playoffs, which runs from the 24-26.

The MLG.tv Columbus Arena is a 14,000 sq. ft venue. It is designed to act as a backdrop for MLG.tv’s “premier competitions and  will deliver the same exciting experience as a large-scale MLG Pro Circuit event in a more intimate setting.” It offers bleacher seating, multiple monitors showing the competitions, and warm up areas for players. There is also a broadcast tower to cover the events.

Photos of the arena will be available tomorrow, but for now you can check out the image of the MLG X Games Invitational arena in Austin, TX above. The Columbus arena is based on the same design.

The arena is one more weapon in the Major League Gaming’s growing arsenal. After launching its own platform to stream competitive gaming events, MLG also opened a broadcast studio in New York, a 15,000 seat stadium is set to open in China in 2017, and more is planned in the next few years as eSports continues to grow.

To help inaugurate the arena, MLG will host the Call of Duty competition, with eight teams competing for $75,000 in prizes and the title of MLG Pro League Champs. The competition will air throughout the weekend.

A full schedule of the event is below.
