First ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ trailer! ‘Nuff said!

First Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer

Following a leak of the trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron, Marvel decided to just roll with it, and officially release the trailer itself via its official YouTube page. The original plan was to show it off with next week’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but the best laid plans and all that.

Kinda undercuts the super cool post we dropped earlier today giving us our first look at Ultron. Meh.

Odds are, you have already stopped reading and are already watching the trailer. In which case, nothing said here will probably reach you. Cumquat. Myopic. Cucamonga.

Anyway, assuming you already watched the trailer – or for some ungodly reason you are waiting – there are a few questions the trailer answers. Or at least, it seems to answer them. The film is written and directed by Joss Whedon after all. He has made a career out of defying expectations.

One nugget comes in the reveal of the Hulkbuster armor. Prior to this trailer, concept art and images of the armor fighting the Hulk, it wasn’t clear exactly who was inside it. Based on the trailer, it is likely Tony Stark’s in his Iron Man armor. Sure, there could be someone else in Tony’s armor, but that seems unlikely.

So, now that we know (probably) that Iron Man and Hulk face off, it suggests that at some point, the Hulk either goes berserk, or the Avengers turn against Iron Man. Based on the scenes of others attacking Tony Stark, it’s difficult to tell.

Perhaps the bigger reveal though is that the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are on Ultron’s side, at least for a bit. There are other photos taken on the set that show the duo fighting alongside Hawkeye, battling people in suits designed for CGI – likely Ultron’s mechanical army, which you can glimpse in the trailer. Odds are, the duo begin as bad guys and then find their way to the light. It’s a tried and true superhero trope, so why not?

With seven months to go until the film is released, you can expect this trailer to be dissected and analyzed over and over and over again. There may even be a post breaking down the trailer in insane detail on the way here at DBP.

Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theaters on May 1, 2015.
