Ever wonder what it looks like to drive 300mph?
Drag racer Shawn Langdon equipped a GoPro before a race to give people a close-up view of what it looks like to drive 300mph.
I’ve joked in the past that the GoPro video market is so oversaturated at this point that people need to really step up their game if they intend to offer something new.
I mean, we have clips from space and skydivers dropping out of the upper atmosphere. A clip of a guy shredding on a snowboard isn’t going to cut it anymore. Now if that guy is getting chased by an avalanche, preferably one that is on fire and filled with bloodthirsty cyborg bears, then you’re in business. But even then it’s tough.
With that said, Shawn Langdon rose to the occasion.
Langdon is a drag racer accustomed to reaching speeds that would make most people evacuate their bladders. In the clip below, he throws on a GoPro before a race and then shows us exactly what it looks like to drive 300mph.
The answer is: it’s freaking nuts.
Langdon is driving a 10,000-bhp Top Fuel dragster. He reaches a speed of 317mph in 3.77 seconds, covering ¼ of a mile in the blink of an eye. To put that in perspective, the Top Gear website points out that a Porsche 918 Spyder – a very, very fast road car – covers that same distance in 10 seconds at 145mph.
Check it out below. I would say don’t try this at home, but there probably isn’t much risk of that in your Honda Civic or Ford Focus.
