Dead Beats Panel needs your help! (Updated!)

Dead Beats Panel crowdfunding

Update 3/24/15: We hit our goal! But we still need your help!

Now that we’ve hit the first goal, that means we can take care of the back end stuff. That is a massive relief, but it is only one small part of what we need to do to grow. Every dollar counts, please keep contributing!

We need your help!

When Dead Beat’s Panel launched in October 2014, there was a plan. It was a good plan that covered the growth of the site for about a year. As they say though, if you want to watch the universe laugh, just make a plan.

The site isn’t even six months old, and DBP is doing so well that there are a few looming issues that need to be addresses sooner rather than later. So for help, rather than plastering ads all over the site, we turn to you, the readers.

We are currently in the midst of a crowdfunding campaign to help us gain the funds we need to take Dead Beats Panel to the next level.  Below is a full breakdown of the campaign, what we need, and why. Feel free to read it here, or head on over to the Indigogo page linked below.

Even if you can’t donate at the moment, there are other ways to help, so please check it out.

No matter what though, thank you all for making DBP a success! We love you all! We’ll even adopt you (if the price if right)!

Dead Beats Panel crowdfundingShort Summary

DBP launched back in late October 2014, and I had a carefully thought out plan. We would cover a particular niche of entertainment and technology that was forward thinking. Along with that plan, there were several goals in place that expanded over the course of a year based on the reaction the site received.

Those goals have been completely blown away.

Traffic has been incredible – more than I realistically thought possible. It’s amazing, but it also means the timetable needs to move up. That’s where this campaign comes in.

The site will always remain free. You won’t ever see a pay wall or anything like that. That said, money can’t buy happiness, but it can buy increased security and video editing software.

Any help you can provide will make the site stronger. Even if it is a dollar, it will help. We run on a tiny budget, so every little bit helps immeasurably!

The site will continue no matter what, but this campaign will help it go to the next level. Please help us get there!

What We Need & What You Get

The set goal really isn’t that important and the campaign isn’t set up where not meeting the goal is a failure. Whatever we end up with will help, and every penny matters. Still, there are three main areas that need to be addressed. How they are addressed will be dependent on how the campaign does, but they will all be addressed in one form or another.

Here are the three primary goals of this campaign:

  1. Back end stuff – This is the non-sexy stuff, but also the most vital. We will spend money on additional security and stability, and several other things you will never see, but need to be addressed.
  2. More content – The more funds we have, the more contributors we can bring on. The more contributors, the more content.
  3. Increased video content  – We currently have two video shows in the works. Any funds we can throw at them will make them better, and could help launch more shows in the future.

The $1,000 figure is just a general guideline. Whether we receive $100, $1,000, or $100,000, the money will go to making the site bigger and better. Especially if we get $100,000. Just sayin.’

For your donation, we have a few things to offer you back.

Rather than just offering you stuff, we want you to help us with the site. We’re not going to put you to work or anything, but this site is still being shaped. Help us determine what it will become!

The Impact

When I launched the site, it was to address a particular cross section of people. DBP is for everyone, but it is slanted for people that like what technology can do and how it is changing the future.

We are just getting started, but hopefully you’ve seen the type of thing we want to cover. Now imagine that with no restraints.

Would you like to see us cover a live rocket launch by NASA? We already received the invite, we just need your help. Would you like more game guides? Not a problem, we just need a bit of support.

The site is growing. There has been very little marketing done, and very few campaigns to get the word out. And yet, it is still growing.

With support, the site could become something unique. Please help us make that happen!

Risks & Challenges

It is tough to compete online with sites that have nearly limitless funds to draw on, and yet somehow we are. There are limits though.

The game is somewhat rigged these days. Did you know that to get a story seen on Facebook – even to the people that liked the page and want to see those stories – you now have to pay? It’s the nature of the beast, unfortunately.

We absolutely can compete. Every dollar you donate helps. The bigger we get though, the more technical issues we will need to address. We don’t need a ton of money for marketing campaigns, but we do need to make sure the site runs smoothly.

Other Ways You Can Help

If you can’t donate at the moment, no problem. There are other ways you can help.

  • The simplest way is to just keep reading. Check the site for new stories, comment if the mood strikes you, and – perhaps most importantly – share the stories! Share them on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, etc., etc.
  • The same goes for the campaign. Please share the links to the campaign! Even if you can’t help out, pass on the link. Maybe someone else can.
  • Use the Indiegogo share tools. It helps!
  • Tell people about the site and the campaign.

And that’s all there is to it. Thanks for reading!
