Contestant tricks Alex Trebek into saying Turd Ferguson, the Internet explodes
Alex Trebek is one of the best TV game show hosts around. He’s a consummate professional, and has been a staple on TV for decades. He became a household name thanks to his iconic tenure as the host of Jeopardy, a position he has held since 1984.
He is a gentleman and a scholar, or at least he presents himself that way. He may have a trunk full of dead hookers for all we know, but he presents himself well. So hearing him utter the words “Turd Ferguson” is glorious.
The other day on Jeopardy, a hero was born. Contestant Talia Lavin entered the Final Jeopardy round with no chance of winning (shy of the cash leader going Beast Mode and betting it all for no reason), so she decided to stake out a little piece of Internet fame.
The final question was: “This song from a 1999 animated film about censorship had a word censored from its Oscar performance.”
The answer was “Blame Canada” from South Park Bigger, Longer, & Uncut, but instead Lavin wrote “What is the Love Ballad of Turd Ferguson – P.S. Hi Mom.”
The joke is from an old SNL skit where Will Ferrell appeared as Trebek in “Celebrity Jeopardy,” while a belligerent Burt Reynolds (played by Norm MacDonald) tried to get Trebek to say “Turd Ferguson.” (You can watch the original clip on Hulu).
When Lavin replied, Trebek didn’t seem to get the joke.
Are we giving Lavin too much credit for a quick joke? Of course, but it’s still funny. Check it out below.
