And now a teaser for Code 8, one of the coolest looking movies you’ve never heard of
For the last few months, Arrow’s Stephen Amell has been teasing a project that he and his cousin Robbie Amell (The Tomorrow People, Flash) have been working on. The details of that project have been kept under wraps, but apparently it is at the point that they can finally tell their suspicious friends exactly what they have been doing over the last few months when they tell them they are going to work, but can’t talk about it.
The duo have been working on a film titled Code 8, set in a world where 4-percent of the population have extraordinary powers, and make up 60-percent of all the crime. In order to combat those with powers, the police – represented in this teaser by Fast and Furious’ Sung Kang – are aided by robotic SWAT-like troops, which look an awful lot like those seen in the film Chappie (with a nod to Call of Duty: Black Ops III).
Based on the trailer, it looks like Robbie Amell and his buddy are accused of a crime using powers, sending the police after them. Given the confused look on Amell’s face, they are either falsely accused, or it is a misunderstanding. In either case, they probably end up on the run from the cops as they fight an unjust system. That’s just a guess, but the teaser has that feel.
The film’s website features a countdown timer leading to March 22, when, presumably, a full trailer will be released. Along with more details on the story, hopefully we’ll get a complete cast list and release date.
As EW notes, a Facebook page for the film also lists Aaron Abrams (Hanibal), Chad Donella (Taken 3), and Alfred Rubin Thompson (Club Dead) in the cast. The film will be directed by Jeff Chan and written by Chris Pare. The Amell cousins will produce along with Geoff Mclean and Tommy Dingwall.
Stephen Amell is not listed as an actor on the film. He may just be producing, or his role may be minimal.
Check back on March 22 for more.
(Ed Note: Cheers to Mike Hatley for the tip!)
