Ben Affleck to co-write, direct, star, and possibly even cater a Batman solo film

Batman solo film

You can go ahead and count this as a rumor for now, but it seems like a pretty firm one, and an obvious move at that. It may not be official yet, but Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. and DC want Ben Affleck to co-write, direct, and star in a solo Batman film that would take place after Justice League.

Affleck will also cater and be in charge of transportation. No, not really. At least probably not.

Affleck is reportedly working with DC jack-of-all-trades Geoff Johns on the script, and the two are said to be working so well together that the script may be complete by the end of this summer. The movie would very much be a part of the DC universe and likely feature plenty of cameos. It would also build off the events of Justice League.

Assuming that is all true, it would also mean that the Justice League is fairly far ahead, at least in terms of the story. That’s not all that surprising given that Justice League Part One  is due out in 2017 and work is expected to begin as soon as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice concludes. The Justice League PArt Two will be filmed along with the first, but it won’t hit theaters until 2019.

Given that this is all unconfirmed, it’s not clear when a Batman solo film would hit theaters. Given the filming requirements and the time required for post production of films like these, it would probably be no sooner than 2019. At the moment, WB has two films planned per year though 2020, so it may even be after that.

We may hear more this week at Comic-Con, of course. DC has a big presence there – as you might expect – and Affleck is will appear on stage along with Henry Cavill and others. There will probably be lots of surprises and at least one clip that will supposedly be a Comic-Con exclusive which will then be posted online via a smartphone minutes after.

For now, content yourself to the debut of Batfleck in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice when it hits theaters on March 25, 2016.
