‘Batman: Arkham Knight’ shows off a mean, lean batmobile (Updated)
Update 12/8/14: The second and third clips have been released. You can find them both below.
Original post 12/2/14: In the first of a three part trailer for Batman: Arkham Knight, developer Rocksteady highlights the many uses of the batmobile, while showing that Batman takes crap from no one.
Although the video is titled “Ace Chemicals Infiltration Trailer Part 1,” the word “trailer” may be a bit misleading. When we hear “trailer,” most expect a stylized look at the property. Maybe some music and a deep voice telling us about a world, where things are whatever. Assuming you have Internet access, or a TV, or people anywhere near you, you probably heard all about the release of the first Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens trailer, and that is indeed a trailer. This clip, however, is different.
The video below is meant in part to highlight how important the batmobile is in the upcoming Batman: Arkham Asylum. It isn’t just a vehicle tacked on, it opens up an entire new gameplay mechanic – several of them, in fact. As Batman you can make your way through Gotham on foot or by air, beating the snot out of the odd bad guy in the wrong place at the wrong time. With the batmobile, you can not only get around the city faster, you can engage in vehicular combat, rescue civilians, and launch yourself over the city like a justice seeking cannonball.
The clip is the first of three that give us a hint on what to expect from the sequel. Speaking of three, the game is the third and supposedly final game in the Arkham series from developer Rocksteady (Batman: Arkham Origins was developed by Warner Bros. Games Montreal).
So far we know that Scarecrow will appear, but the real villain of the game is the “Arkham Knight,” a character that Rocksteady claims is unique to the games.
We’ll know more when the next “trailer” drops, although we have a fairly lengthy wait until the game is released for PC, PlayStation 4,and Xbox One on June 2, 2015.
