AMC thinks Preacher doesn’t suck! Orders full season

They better not screw up Preacher.

It would be so easy to do. The Vertigo comic is dark, but it’s also funny, insightful, and steeped in the lore of the American West. There are plenty of shocking elements that would be easy to exploit in a live action medium, but it’s core is about three people living through extraordinary events.

They better not screw up Preacher.

And so far it looks like those involved with the live-action AMC version are doing something right, as the network just ordered a full season.

The Preacher TV show is being developed for AMC by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, but so far the focus has been on creating just a pilot.

Dominic Cooper was cast as disillusioned cowboy-turned-preacher-turned host to a supernatural entity Jesse Custer, Ruth Negga won the role as Custer’s ex-girlfriend and failed assassin Tulip, and Joe Gilgun will appear as the lecherous Irish Vampire named Cassidy.

A few others from the comic will appear in the pilot as well, including Arseface and his father Sheriff Root.

Filming on the pilot is probably complete, and AMC likes what it has seen, enough to greenlight an entire season. The order hasn’t officially been unveiled yet, but Deadline is hearing that the season will consist of 10 episodes.

Deadline is also reporting that the show may debut in May 2016.

Rogen himself also announced the news via Twitter. He didn’t offer up any details, but he did show off a new poster.

A Preacher adaptation has been in the works in one form or another since the late 90s, so this is long, long, long overdue. AMC has had a ton of success with adult comic adaptations – specifically The Walking Dead – so hopefully the network will show Preacher a ton of support.

They better not screw up Preacher.

And so far it looks like they aren’t.
